Benefits of meal subscriptions

Meal kits have gained popularity primarily due to their exceptional convenience, streamlining the home cooking experience by delivering precisely measured ingredients alongside recipes. This trend saw a surge during the height of the pandemic driven by the desire to avoid crowded grocery stores and relish restaurant-quality meals from the comfort of home. Services like HelloFresh offer pre-made meals for people seeking a time-saving option.

Despite perceptions of higher costs, meal kits can indeed be a more economical choice compared to dining out or frequent takeout. Larger households can also benefit from bulk order discounts.

Additionally, they foster healthier eating habits through portion-controlled servings and emphasize the use of fresh, nutritious ingredients. Catering to specific dietary needs further enhances their appeal.

You should know how to make these incredible sauces
Mastering these sauces will make you look like a pro in the kitchen
Bechamel sauce over lasagna

A good sauce is a core component of culinary culture. Knowing how to make a handful of them can elevate your kitchen game to unforeseen heights. Often, a good sauce is the star of the show. After all, what would Thanksgiving turkey be without gravy? Or Eggs Benedict without hollandaise?

Now, we don't expect you to pull a Bearnaise sauce out of your hat at a moment's notice. But you should be able to whip up a solid tomato-based sauce for pasta, or a good teriyaki sauce for rice and veggies or skewered proteins. We know, there are great pre-made options out there, from complex fish sauce to throw-it-on-anything Japanese barbecue sauce. Yet, you know as well as we do that when you pull it off from scratch, it's more rewarding and can even taste better.

How to make hard apple cider from the comfort of your home
Hard apple cider in a glass, surrounded by apples.

As much as we like to talk about beer and how to brew it yourself, hard cider is equally delicious and a whole lot less complicated to make at home, requiring far less equipment. Indeed, making hard cider is a really a simple equation: Apple Juice + yeast + time = hard cider. Naturally, there's a bit more to it than this, and a few potential pitfalls you'll want to know about before you get started. Read on as we explain the ins and outs of how to make hard cider.
Hard cider is easy to DIY

From a broad perspective, learning how to make hard cider and then actually making it is quite straightforward. Yes, there might be tons of canned ciders for convenience, but nothing beats the taste of your own craft. You get yourself some fresh apple juice (either by mashing the apples yourself or buying pre-squeezed juice), add some yeast (Champagne yeast is a great choice), and then wait a few weeks for everything to ferment. Who knows? Maybe you'd be able to make your own cider cocktail next time. While there are some additional steps to making a great hard cider (which we'll get into below), this is the basic idea behind hard cider.

This is how to make a Bloody Bull – a better, beefier Bloody Mary recipe
Here's a different version of a Bloody Mary
Brennan's Bloody Bull.

Born in the great city of New Orleans, the Bloody Bull is the beefier cousin of the Bloody Mary. Treated to some meaty broth, the drink is super savory and begging to accompany your brunch plans.

The original hails from Brennan's, a colorful creole restaurant that's been on the scene since 1946. There are riffs of course, with bartenders treating the drink to everything from a bit of Guinness to a host of different spice blends.
